Why BPHAC Is Different

We are uniquely positioned to treat and understand the pelvic floor in a way that a standard acupuncture office doesn’t.

Our pelvic floor physical therapists and our acupuncturists have created a methodology that combines the knowledge from two separate disciplines to create a comprehensive framework for treatment.

We’ve been in the acupuncture business for 17 years, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that 2 to 5 brains are better than one.

We are the only office that specializes in the pelvic floor and works as a team all the way from IVF/IUI/conception to postpartum care. Most acupuncturists aren’t educated in the intricacies of the pelvic floor and all of its conditions.
We have created a methodology with our pelvic floor physical therapists to ensure that no matter the journey you are on, we are uniquely qualified to treat and support you.

Real talk: you should not have to piece this together on your own. This level of integrated care should be the standard.

What’s Actually Going On

Acupuncture regulates hormones by stimulating the nervous system to modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis.

This helps balance cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and androgen levels.

Fertility is not only about one isolated system. Stress, hormones, circulation, pelvic floor function, pain, sleep, and emotional health can all play a role in the body’s ability to regulate and heal.

Why Fertility Challenges Persist

Fertility is rarely just one issue.

If everything looks “normal” but you are still struggling, it often means that the systems responsible for regulation are not communicating effectively.

Stress, poor circulation, pelvic floor dysfunction, and hormonal imbalance can all contribute to the body being in a state where it is not ready to conceive or sustain a pregnancy.

Without addressing these systems together, it is common for patients to feel stuck or to cycle through treatments without meaningful progress.

How Acupuncture Helps

Did you know that adding acupuncture to your IVF journey increases your chances of getting pregnant by 30-34 percent? That’s a wild improvement.

Acupuncture supports fertility by working directly with the systems that regulate reproduction, healing, and hormonal balance.

What Acupuncture Does in the Body

  • Improves blood flow to reproductive organs, increasing oxygenation and nutrient delivery
  • Regulates the nervous system, shifting the body out of a chronic stress response
  • Supports communication between the brain and reproductive system through the HPA and HPO axes
  • Reduces inflammation and supports tissue healing
  • Encourages hormonal balance by influencing cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and androgen levels

Why This Matters for Fertility

When these systems are not functioning together, the body can struggle to regulate ovulation, maintain hormonal balance, or support implantation and pregnancy.

By improving circulation, reducing stress, and supporting hormonal signaling, acupuncture helps create an internal environment that is more supportive of conception and pregnancy.

This is why acupuncture can be effective both as a standalone treatment and as a complement to IVF, IUI, or other fertility treatments.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

Our pelvic floor physical therapists and our acupuncturists have created a methodology that combines the knowledge from two separate disciplines to create a comprehensive framework for treatment.

Pregnancy Preparation

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy can play an important role in supporting the body during pregnancy because the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and hips experience significant stress as the baby grows.

This type of therapy focuses on strengthening, relaxing, and coordinating the muscles that support the pelvis and core so the body can better handle the physical changes of pregnancy and prepare for delivery.

Many pregnant individuals experience discomfort such as low back pain, hip pain, pelvic girdle pain, tailbone pain, or pain around the pubic bone, including conditions like Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. And frankly, we don’t believe in asking women to suffer as the status quo.

Postpartum Recovery

We always start with Softwave shockwave to help tissue heal and work on the scar. In conjunction we start rehabbing the “intrinsic core,” the part of the abdominal wall that we contract without thinking about it.

But in conjunction with Softwave we also start to rehab the muscles affected during C-section. Bringing integrity to the core, pelvic floor and helping you plan out what is normal and what needs attention in the months after bringing your baby into the world.

How often should I come for fertility acupuncture?

When first starting out, most patients come once per week for 3-5 visits. From there, your practitioner will adjust your treatment plan based on your response and where you are in your journey.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Not only is acupuncture safe during pregnancy, but it is one of the most efficient ways to treat a variety of pregnancy related issues including morning sickness, pain, and preparation for labor.

Can acupuncture really improve IVF outcomes?

Adding acupuncture to your IVF journey has been shown to increase the chances of getting pregnant by 30-34 percent. We also work with your existing providers to create a coordinated plan of care.

Do I need pelvic floor therapy as well?

Not every patient will require pelvic floor physical therapy, but because our providers work together, we are able to determine when it is appropriate and integrate it into your care when needed.
