About Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. While it can affect men of all ages, it becomes more common with increasing age. Various factors contribute to ED, including underlying health conditions, medications, psychological factors, and lifestyle choices. It is estimated that approximately 30 million men in the United States alone experience ED.
How Do You Treat Erectile Dysfunction?
At BPHAC, we use a combination of pelvic health physical therapy and low intensity shockwave treatments to address erectile dysfunction.
Shockwave Therapy for ED
BPHAC is proud to be the only Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy practice in WNY to offer low intensity, unfocused Shockwave treatment for Erectile Dysfunction and pelvic health. Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that involves the delivery of shock waves to an injured area to promote healing. Data shows that the application of short, frequent, and low intensity bursts of mechanical energy (in the form of a shockwave) into the penile tissue can help stimulate blood flow and may promote the growth of new blood vessels.
Pelvic Floor Therapy for ED
In addition to shockwave therapy, treatment may include manual therapy, physical therapy exercises, breathing exercises, education, and home exercise designations to help maintain a healthy pelvic floor and to encourage natural or spontaneous erections.
What to Expect with ED Treatment
Your First Appointment
At your first appointment, we’ll go through a thorough history of symptoms, a pelvic floor assessment and an initial treatment with shockwave therapy. Patients will receive some breathing and exercises as homework between sessions.
What Does Treatment Look Like?
Use of the Softwave patented applicator on and around the penile shaft can last between 15–20 minutes depending on the number of shocks used. Patients often report feeling a gentle tapping or tingling sensation from shockwave treatment, but not pain. Most sessions will also include physical therapy to complement the Shockwave and promote overall pelvic health. Patients typically need 6-9 weekly visits to see optimal results.
Respect, Compassion, and Privacy
We recognize that erectile dysfunction is a very personal and sensitive matter. We treat each of our patients with the utmost respect and provide care that puts your needs and goals first. As with all aspects of care at BPHAC, you can expect a completely private and confidential experience.
