SoftWave Shockwave Therapy

An electrode inside a dome full of water sends short, frequent sparks of mechanical energy (shockwaves) which penetrate the skin upon contact and create soundwaves that travel through the affected tissue. The movement of the soundwaves interacts with tissue to accelerate repair and cell growth, increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the formation of new blood vessels – leading to reduced pain and increased mobillity.

The SoftWave patented applicator makes it possible to use lower frequency, unfocused shockwaves to treat a large area of both superficial and deep tissue, getting results without causing trauma.

Shockwave Therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving areas where major connective tissue attaches to bone. It can be an excellent addition to orthopedic physical therapy and pelvic physical therapy to provide relief from the following conditions:

Arthritis/Joint Pain
Low Back Pain
Musculoskeletal Pain
Neck Pain
Non-healing Wounds
Plantar fasciitis
Scars
Sciatica
Tendonitis

Erectile Dysfunction
Pelvic Pain
Penile Pain
PGAD
Rectal Pain
Sacroiliac/SIJ Pain
Tailbone Pain
Testicular Pain
Vulvodynia/Vestibulodynia

Your First Appointment

Treatment applying the Softwave patented Applicator can last 5–15 minutes depending on the number of shocks used. Over an area without inflammation, it feels like a rubber band gently snapping on your skin. Over a “hot spot” or sensitive area, you may feel a deeper discomfort, similar to the discomfort for which you’re being treated.

What Does Treatment Look Like?

This 30 minute session includes an assessment by one of our practitioners and application of 1500 frequent, low intensity soundwave shocks which begin to stimulate healing. Additional shocks may be added for an extra cost.

Follow Up and Continued Treatment

Some patients notice a dramatic improvement after 3 to 4 sessions, while more chronic issues may require 6 to 10 sessions of shockwave to note significant changes.  These sessions typically last 15 minutes.  Depending on your condition, it may be recommended to pair Shockwave treatment with physical therapy.

Shockwave Therapy is not covered by insurance. All payments will be taken up front.

Shockwave Therapy is not yet approved by the FDA, though significant testing has shown it to be effective in more than 80% of cases.

Shockwave therapy does not hurt. There is the possibility of finding “hot spots” which might be sore but the mechanism of the device improves the sensitivity and patients do not feel sore afterwards.

After Shockwave, we encourage patients to avoid rigorous activity for the rest of the day.
